Cincinnati Area Senior Services (CASS)

This organization’s mission is to promote the independence and preserve the dignity of older adults. The agency goals are to be the community leader in advocating for the needs of older, at-risk adults; constantly evolve and improve services through continuous review; excel in fiscal management and efficiency of operation; and demonstrate ownership, respect and accountability at all levels.

CASS has provided services to greater Cincinnati seniors for 52 years. The continuum of service has expanded over the years and now includes a variety of home and community based services designed to meet the needs of active seniors as well as older adults who are frail and require more assistance. CASS serves over 5000 senior clients each year; 1500 of whom receive Meals-on-Wheels.

CASS serves individuals age 60 and older who reside in Hamilton County and the southern portion of Warren County and who have few or inadequate supports to assist them in remaining independent in the community. Over half are age 75 and over; the majority are minority and almost all fall within the “low” or “extremely low” income levels as defined by Federal standards for poverty levels.

Senior nutrition and transportation services are the cornerstone of the services CASS provides to the elderly. Nutrition services provided by CASS include Meals-on-Wheels and congregate meals at four sites (Over-the-Rhine, Avondale, Delhi, Green and Whitewater Townships and College Hill). Meals-on-Wheels are provided to homebound seniors who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. The congregate meals are available to seniors who are mobile and able to travel to a congregate site. In addition to a nutritious meal, the congregate meal program gives seniors the opportunity for social interaction with others. CASS provides transportation for seniors who have few, if any, transportation options. Daily transportation is provided to and from area senior centers and congregate meal sites. Weekly trips for grocery and other shopping are provided for 35 senior groups. CASS also provides transportation for group social and recreation outings. Medical transportation is also provided.

Grants have been given to CASS through funds of the Cambridge Charitable Foundation in order for them to continue their much-needed services.
